By the invitation of a sister from our church named Margarita, we traveled to her hometown in Cañete which is a couple of hours south of Lima. We went to visit her brother Tito. He had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt. He did this after his mother-in-law accused him of a hideous crime. When we got to the hospital Tito looked very sad and he did not want to talk to anyone. We did then get a chance to talk with him about his condition before God and about the coming judgment. We told him that if he repented that God would forgive his sins, that he would even forgive him for the hideous crime that he had committed. For a moment his face changed and he looked pensive. He said "help me." I told him that the only thing that could really help him was Jesus Christ and I again began to share the gospel with him. Tito repented, his face changed, his tone of voice changed, and I gave him a tract to read. He told me that he didn't want a tract but that he wanted my Bible. I gave it to him and I recommended that he begin reading in the Gospel of John because it would teach him about security of salvation. I had never before seen such a rapid conversion, I saw it even in his face. We shook hands and said goodbye. I shared with his sister, who had been waiting outside, what had happened and she was overjoyed. A few days after this Tito, who was recently converted, got out of the hospital. He was very afraid to go home because of the accusations that his mother-in-law had made against him. His in-laws had no desire to see him. Four days after he left the hospital, Tito was found dead on the beach in Cañete; it appeared that he had been murdered. No one knows who murdered him. I had visited with this man's family before, but it was on my second visit to the family that this man's mother gave her life to the Lord. After Tito's murder his father from Cañete to find me in Lima in order that I might guide him to Christ. This 79 year old man made a profession of faith and returned to Cañete hoping to receive a visit from me some time in the future. To God Be The Glory, Ernesto Z.
