Testimony and Calling
When I was 20 years old I came to know the Lord and I was saved by his grace alone. Like all sinners I was involved in dirty and low sins and I dishonored the glory of God.
One day before I was saved, a believer approached me and invited me to a drug and alcohol rehab center. I accepted his invitation because I wanted to get out of the world of drugs and alcohol. I did not realize that God was planning to save me and to cleanse me from all of my sins.
I did not understand what it meant to be a Christian even though many people had spoken to me about Christ. But on that day I began to understand and to love Christ. The first time that I preached his word was the first time that they gave me permission to do so at the center. I went home for a visit and the first thing that I did was to share with them about my conversion. They (my family) didn't believe me because I had always promised them that I was going to change but I never did. On one occasion they had even gotten me out of prison because I had promised that I was going to give up all of the evil things that I had been doing. But it was all in vain.
However, from the time that God saved me, he transformed my life and made me a new creation. I began to attend a church that was meeting close to my house. I also began to work selling candy; of course I didn't earn very much but at least I was doing something honorable.
I was so desirous of learning more about the Word of God that I practically moved in at the church and I would only come home for lunch. I began to witness to my family and I shared with them about my faith. My mother and my father began attending church and now my whole family is Christian.
Two years after my conversion, God gave me the chance to go on a mission trip to the city of Piura. I was not yet very mature in my walk with God. When we began to have the services, the people who had been invited thought that I knew a lot about the Bible and they came to me to ask questions. I shared this with some of the more mature brethren and they counseled me to study the Bible. So, I began to study.
God began to work in me and to teach me what he wanted me to become. Then, after some time had passed some brothers from the seminary in Trujillo came and offered me the chance of attending their seminary. It worked out for me to go there.
During my second year of studies, God allowed me to go and start a new church eight hours away from the city of Trujillo. I thank the Lord because that church continues in existence. Unfortunately they don't have a pastor and they only meet occasionally. After I graduated from the seminary I returned to the church that had sent me out in order to seek the Lord about my future.
Currently, I am working on a church plant that my wife and I have begun in our home. I am also helping out on Saturdays with another church plant that was begun two years ago by Filadelfia Baptist Church.
