One family from Miguel C.'s church that we visited in order to encourage them through the Word and prayer. On Friday morning I was able to visit with Carlos G. and Jose M. Both of them are pastoring in the Sullana area. Carlos is pastoring an established church in a dangerous part of town. Jose is pastoring a relatively new church plant. Both also work at the seminary in Sullana; Jose helps to supervise the students and Carlos teaches classes. Much of my conversation with Carlos centered around his wife's health. She recently has had to have several surgeries, including one emergency surgery. Thankfully she is recovering and appears to be doing well. Friday afternoon we traveled, along with Jose M., Daniel C., and Daniel's wife Jenny to Monte de los Olivos to visit with Miguel C. Miguel serves as a pastor and also as a leader in his local Baptist association. In that capacity he helps to coordinate ongoing theological education for the pastors and the leaders in the association. We had a good visit with Miguel and his family. (See video below.)
On Saturday morning we traveled from Monte de los Olivos to Charan Grande where Gilberto N. pastors and serves as a leader in his Baptist association. Of all of the missionaries that HeartCry supports in Peru, Gilberto definitely lives in the most rural location. We drove for three hours to reach Charan Grande and we saw very few houses along the way. (See video below.)
The visit with Gilberto was a real treat for me. I was very impacted in 2009 when I met with Gilberto for the first time and I heard the story of how the Lord saved him and has used him to plant over 40 churches. So, I was happy to be able to visit his church and see first hand what the Lord has done there. We were able to attend a Saturday night worship meeting and the Sunday morning services with Gilberto, his church, and a few of the other pastors from the association who came over for our time together. This morning we flew back to Lima and have been resting today. Tomorrow I will begin visiting with each of our missionaries in the Lima area. Please pray that the Lord would help us to make the most of our time together.
