We had a prayer and Bible teaching weekend. Both the students from Brasov and Sibiu attended this time. On this occasion God put the thought on my heart of going to preach the good news to the students in the dorms with Bible teaching and prayer. There were a few students from Sibiu who had never done that before. Therefore we went with them so that we could train them. We had about 15 teams of two and about 30-35 students heard the gospel. My son, Timotei, and Darius, a student from Sibiu, and me went together. We met Bogdan, a freshman who is studying Forestry. He listened carefully. At a certain moment, the room was full, as five other students came to listen to what I was telling them.
One of them started to ask questions. Another one, Ionut, asked me what were the differences between the Orthodox Bible and ours. When I told him I wanted to drop by his room, he said he was OK as long as we did not talk about God. At the end, Bogdan said, "what you told me sounds strange. I have never heard anything like it before."
My son David went together with Viorel, a student from Brasov, and Emanuel from Sibiu. At first, they felt fearful. Emanuel had been to the dorms before but had never led the discussion. It was the same with Viorel. They eventually prayed and my son, David, had the courage to knock on doors. There were rooms where no one answered, while other people refused to talk. But they pressed on and eventually found a student from the Republic of Moldova. He proved to be receptive to the gospel.
Brother Scott Lee was here and helped over the weekend. He came along with us to the dorms. Five to six students from Nigeria showed up the first day. We preached the gospel and invited the students to repent.
I did outreach with Ionut and went to his room. When we entered the room, we introduced ourselves to Alina and Al. Cezar joined in too. I had met Cezar a few days before in the hallway. We had a short talk about the differences between Orthodox people and Protestants. Cezar told me he had visited a Baptist church while in high school for a while. But he could not understand why we did not do the sign of the cross or worship icons. I got my Bible out and started to read from it. But Cezar did not actually want an answer from the Bible. I realized he was not actually looking for the truth but he wanted to contradict me. His roommate Adi came in. I started to tell him the gospel too. He told me he was afraid of the dark. When I asked him where he would go if he died, he said, "God have mercy on us."
Another gentleman from the church and I visited a lady from the church who was dying. Her daughter was there too. She used to come to the Baptist church but her husband threatened her. He told her to quit going because she was embarrassing him. I thought that was an appointed time for her to hear the gospel again. She listened carefully and cried. She knelt down and prayed. She said she would like to walk in her mother's footsteps. Her mother was a very faithful woman. I understood she was not ready to pay the whole price. I showed her very specific verses talking about our self-denial.
God led me to talk to some people, other than students. Alexandra was someone who worked at ING. It all started from the question about how many children I had. This is when I started to share the gospel with her. She told me her neighbors were Pentecostals and they were special people. I asked her if she read the Bible. She said she did not so I encouraged her to do it. Bogdan is an engineer and works for a cell phone company. While talking to him, I found out he had studied in Brasov and had actually been to one of our meetings. I shared the gospel with him and gave him some Christian books.
Last time I told you about my discussion with the leader of the Orthodox Students Association. Well, once again, I went to dorm 9. I came across Daniel and started to share the gospel with him. While sharing with him, Alex, the leader, came to the windows and shouted to Daniel, "don't listen to him, he only talks nonsense". I was surprised that he could see us from the outside. It was still daylight. I felt the spiritual fight. Praise the Lord that Daniel agreed to listen. And he said he would like to hear some more.
