Mt. Merapi Relief Report
by Mr. Blaze

On October 25, 2010 in Central Java, Indonesia, Mt. Merapi erupted, shooting into the atmosphere plumes of volcanic ash, debris and lava. Since that time, there have also been several intense earthquakes. This catastrophic event has left over 250 people dead and over 320,000 people displaced without food, shelter, and clothing.

On November 11th, Pak N. led a team of nine people to some of the most remote and hardest hit locations within the affected areas. Pak N. decided to take supplies directly to the people in need rather than to some of the drop off points in order to insure that everything reached the hands of those in need and to make more personal contact with villagers and village leaders. In a two day period, the team brought supplies such as blankets, t-shirts, face masks, women's underwear, babies' milk, and food to nine refugee camps. In all, over 3,500 refugees were served.

On the last day of distribution, some older villagers wanted to take the team closer to an affected village, from where many had just recently fled. The entire village was completely under ash and anything that once lived was now dead (livestock, fish, trees, crops). The team was then allowed to pray over some of the people and the village itself.

Please continue to pray for so many who have lost family members in this tragic event, for those who have lost homes, for those who have lost income, and for many who have yet to come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Pak N. prays that as a result of meeting the physical needs of these villagers that he was able to create lasting relationships with leaders and communities that will continue long after the disaster is over. There has already been talk of being asked to come again in order to help the villagers receive clean water education and equipment. Pray that such a meeting would again lend itself to greater conversation concerning Christ and the hope found only in Him.
