Introducing “Ubabalo”  (GRBC SPORTS MINISTRY)

I am humbled to write about the Lord's work among the youth through Ubabalo ("God's grace").

Earlier in the year we were, by God's providence, presented with a unique opportunity to use football in reaching out to the youth. We are honored to be the pioneers of this at present within the Reformed circles in Namibia. It might even be a good idea to brainstorm how everybody would benefit from this venture and work on possible improvements together.

Grace Reformed Baptist Church Update – August

What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people. (Psa 116:12-14 ESV)

In this update I share with you Trevor L.’s tale of sin and its consequences. He is 32, unmarried, unsaved, unemployed and has a 10-year-old son born when he cohabited with a woman who is now married and keeps this child. Trevor, the last born in the family of 5, lost his mother in 1996 when he was in grade 12 and later his father in 2000. He says he inherited the house, which he sold in 2006, the same year that he joined Youth for Christ Bible School to do Short Term Missionary Training (STMT). He used much of the money on drugs which he had been involved in from 1999 to 2008, and deposited the remainder in the personal account of the director of the Bible school. He claims the director misused it and paid back 20% less than what he gave him.  He failed to complete his course, and in 2009 he was imprisoned for ten months for stealing. After serving the sentence he came and stayed with his niece who later chased him away for the theft of a cell phone. He then moved into the drainage pipe and made it his home.

GRACE REFORMED BAPTIST CHURCH UPDATE- AUGUST 2010

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. (Psa 126:1-6 ESV)

Grace Reformed Baptist Church (GRBC) UPDATE – JULY 2010

Greetings in the Lord’s Name; I write once again to share the Lord’s dealings with us here at Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Windhoek. The Lord has done for us more abundantly than we deserve. He did it for His own glory and we must tell it.

A Song of Ascents.

Grace and peace to all that bruise their knees that the Lord’s work may go on. As a labourer on the field, I sometimes get so full of prayerless activities and worry that you wonder how the work goes on. It is the Lord’s faithfulness answering your prayers.

Evangelism:

June 2010 was set aside as harvest month. It began well but later became badly affected by World Cup 2010 in RSA. So we have had to postpone the last two weeks’ activities until mid-July. Pray that we do not lose momentum. We have had fairly good attendances, even running out of space on Sundays.

We nevertheless had wonderful times, sometimes reaching out in areas of Windhoek that perhaps no one had ever thought of visiting with the gospel. On 12th we went to a place nicknamed “HERERO MALL” in Katutura. This is the Sodom and Gomorrah of Windhoek (or even Namibia) as some of my church members describe it. There is drinking, eating, sex (involving girls from as young as 12 to women in their sixties), obscenities, murders, business etc. on a plot of about 1 ½ hectares. We went with our chairs, set them under a tree, and went from one Shebeen to the next, (there is probably 30 – 40 of them) inviting the patrons to the place we put the chairs. Many were shocked at our audacity to enter that “Mall” with the gospel, some gave excuses, and a few came to our corner and listened to the gospel. One or two came to church the following Sunday. A lot of printed gospel literature was given out. One man wept profusely while listening to the gospel and there were a lot of questions. Now our members are suggesting more such visits in the future.
