Dear Praying Friends, The words of Psalm 31 verse 15 are familiar to us. But they recently came home with a renewed freshness. A friend wrote to us early in the week seeking to encourage us regarding Naphtally's health situation. He wrote in part: I pray that those young believers in the faith may be able to look at this and see through their pastor a man who would continue to trust God though He slays him. A man who is content with God's providence whichever way it comes. A man who is convinced with the psalmist in Psalm31 that: "But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."My times are in Your hand;" Though Naphtally has preached from this passage a few times in the past, the last line ‘My times are in Your hands' has been just the backbone that he needed to continue to trust God though He slays him. As some of you friends know, Naphtally went to the hospital for an M.R.I. Lumbar Spine Scan on 12th February. He was found to have a ‘Multilevel Degenerative Disc Disease at L2-L3 to L5-S1 leading to nerve root compressions.' Don't worry about the long name; just call it a back problem! The Orthopedic Surgeon told him to wait for a consultative meeting to decide whether it will require injections into to the spine and surgery, or injections only. Four days later, he was informed that his "case is a difficult one but they have agreed on beginning him on 2 to 4 injections per year." This is to provide necessary lubrication. This Scan is the 6th ‘X-ray' with the 1st being done 17 years ago. This time (M.R.I.) it is more detailed and highly accurate; thanks to God for modern technology. He will go in for the treatment as soon as possible. We have been blessed by the ‘flying visit' (less than 48 hours) of John McDonald and Trevor Condy both of Grace Baptist Mission (GBM) UK. They are in Kenya to visit and talk with their missionaries in the country. They spoke at our midweek prayer meeting. John showed from Romans 3 that as different as we may be outwardly, there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but that those who believe are justified freely in Christ alone. Trevor encouraged the young Church from Philippians 1 to let its life be worthy of the gospel of Christ. Naphtally's family first met Trevor's family some 22 years ago. Is this a case of how old people have grown or of the sustaining grace of God?! Whatever the case, we are humbly reminded that ‘My times are in Your hands.'
David Anderson & Naphtally joined Christian friends who met in Kawangware Nairobi on 21st February for the constituting of Injili Bible Church. Pastor Sam O. of Grace Baptist Church Kisumu led the constituting service and preached while Naphtally led in the setting apart of Joseph M. and Sukesh P. to the eldership. Seventeen Christians covenanted together as the founding members of this young Reformed Baptist Church. It was simple, delightful and biblical. The area of Kawangware is one of the most populated areas with ‘churches' of every shade and colour; but the true gospel is sadly lacking. It is said that there are more ‘churches' than Bars (Pubs) within the area! We pray that Injili Bible Church will be a beacon of light in that dark area of Nairobi City. Injili is the Swahili word for Gospel. Please pray for Jackton & Irene as we work with them towards their possible baptism in the near future. Thank you for your continued prayers for us. Naphtally & Helida O.
