Dear Praying Friends,
Greetings to you in our Saviour's name. We are again running behind with our "Monthly Praise Letter"! However, we will seek to keep you informed of matters for your continued interest and prayers as we have time.
The past five weeks since Tim returned for his holidays have been great times for the family. Though he has tried to keep busy with his assignments, he has also kept us busy with reports and stories of how his longest time away from home has been. He is a wonderful cook too and so he has been a great help to mum in the kitchen. However, his time of departure will soon come and we will have to learn to bid him farewell. Liz just finished her end-of-year-nine exams yesterday and plans to enjoy her holiday by keeping in touch with her many friends through Facebook! The future is still not very clear for her, but she has passion for young children. She and her brother are making strides in their Christian faith.
Queenvel, my niece, who has been doing experience attachment in Human Resources Management with a nearby Timber firm secured a job with the same firm upon completion of her attachment. This is truly the Lord's doing as getting a job is extremely difficult. Helida is well and keeps the whole family running together and coordinating the various matters of hospitality within the church.
I continue to go through various health challenges. Just over a month ago, I developed a serious headache which continues to bother me. This was after handling some particular issue in the church. God's grace is, however, truly sufficient.
My first term of studies ended late last month. I now have the month of July for rest and work in the church. Term two studies begin on 9th August and run for three weeks until the end of August.
Both our remaining parents, Helida's dad and my mum, are sickly. Helida's dad has been in Kisumu City for treatment for over three months now with diabetes and a few other complications. My mum too is on daily treatment for advanced osteoarthritis and other concerns. We have had opportunities to visit with and encourage them in the Lord. They are both believers and while bodily they are very frail, they are steady in the Lord and remain a challenge and an encouragement to us. Please remember them in prayers.
It was encouraging to attend pastor's fraternal in Kisumu at the end of last month. A number of church leaders from Western Kenya attended. The topic of "Independence of a local church" was both very needful and current. This was organized by Graham Jones.
We put in our application for church registration under the societies act in late May. We ask you to please continue in prayer with us. Such registration is needful in the environment in which we operate. It is very easy for the more established or already registered groups to raise allegations or false accusations against us and hinder the work. We are particularly vulnerable in our current residential setup.
A sizeable number of our church members have moved away from Eldoret due to economic challenges. Pray with us for them that the Lord may keep them in the faith and protect them from the evil one. On that note, please continue to pray for us for more open doors regarding witnessing. And pray that the Lord may be pleased to open their hearts to the gospel as He did Lydia's heart in Acts 16.
In less than a month (4th August), Kenyan's go to the Polls for the Referendum on the new Constitution. This is campaign time it has brought out much that is negative in people (sadly even from among the clergy). Please pray for us that this process will not end up dividing the country.
In Christ, Naphtally & Helida with Tim, Liz and Qeenvel
