Hello to you brethren.

I trust that the Lord gave you a pleasant beginning of the year 2010.

We started 2010 by seeing baptism of Caesar. He one of the young men I have been witnessing to for quite a long time. This was on January 3rd, 2010. Caesar has since gone back to school (boarding) and is very bright at school. Pray that the Lord will sustain him. We look forward to another baptism soon.

The church plant in Oyugis town has now started formal Sunday meetings. This work has great potential for growth. Many are fed up with the charismatic chaos and looking for a more biblical church. One of the brethren has offered his hotel room for the Sunday meetings. Pray that the Lord will bless this work with necessary resources.

The Maseno University bible study is also growing and we see more getting interested.
We encourage them to come to Kisumu (30km away) for Sunday service. If we had enough workers, it would be prudent to start a church plant in Maseno.

The Kisumu church building is now finished and beautiful. We thank God for a generous donation from a friend in the UK who made this possible. Pray that the building will be filled with people after God's heart. We will start our Sunday meetings here as soon as the city engineer gives us occupancy certificate. He must first certify that the building is well done and will not collapse on any one. Pray that the certificate will come soon. The church has been meeting in my house for the last 10 years while using my sitting room as Sunday school class. They have left my sofa sets torn and worn-out needing complete replacement. Kids will always be kids! Below is the new church building and Sunday school kids in my sitting room with their teacher Enos, who is assisted by Nila.

The reformed churches: GBC Kisumu (ours), Eldoret church (Naphtaly) and Kawangware church (in Nairobi) will be meeting this month on the 22-23rd to plan for the year. This is an association of our three churches and others who are sympathetic (Reformed Baptist movement in Kenya, RebMik). Pray that this meeting will foster our relationship and fellowship. In April we are planning a conference in Nairobi where we will invite friends from other churches. Pray that the Lord will use us to help our country come back to biblical Christianity.

Family: We thank God for our daughter Nila. She passed her primary level school exams and has now joined Lois at school. Nila will start her grade 9. Lois will be sitting her grade 11 exams in June. Pray for both girls. Billian (my niece) left us to start a job with Kodak films in a small town south of Kisumu. This is a part-time job and at least she will be earning some pocket money. She still harbors the hope of going to the university. I thank God for enabling me start my masters program this year on organizational leadership. This is a new program in Kenya, which is based at an evangelical university in Nairobi. It seeks to develop Christian leaders who lead with clear biblical ethics. The university believes that this is the only hope for Africa today in terms developing upright men for the leadership. I attend lectures only 12 days in a year; the rest of the months are home-based work and research. Pray that it will help develop my leadership style to the glory of God.

With love,
Sam and Melly
