AUGUST 2009 REPORT TWO 16th August - We met on the Lord's Day in the morning for group activities. Few people turned up for this. Many people came for the main service. We continued with our studies in the book of Hosea. In the evening, I was preaching at another sister Church. I was carrying out a series in the book of Ruth. 18th August - We met for the elder's meeting. We looked at the progress of ministries and viewed the response people had to evangelism in the house groups. We realized that since this was the first time we were doing this many people had fears. We agreed to meet with the house group leaders. 19th August - We had a faculty meeting to look at the next module. We saw that while the previous module attracted many people, only a few people had turned up for the evangelism module. Later I attended an evangelistic bible study. We had only one visitor, but a number of our children came. 20th August - There was another evangelistic bible study in another house group. Three visitors had come and many dependants of our members also came. The word of God came with conviction. After the study, some of our members escorted the visitors home in order to know where they live.21st August - Early in the morning we had a time of prayer with the elders. We shared many issues affecting our members and ministry at large and spent time in prayer. In the afternoon I met with the relatives our two young people who want to get married. There had been a lot of tension between the two families. We tried to iron our some of the differences. We thought we had solved the problem but later we learnt that more problems existed. In the evening we had the men's prayer meeting. A number of men came and we had a sobering time in the presence of the Lord. 22nd August - After group activities on Sunday we went to the main service. My colleague was preaching on the subject of prayer. The emphasis was on being devoted to prayer. Later in the evening I continued our studies in the book of Ruth. We looked at how Naomi endured the wrath of God. 24th - 28th August - I travelled to Lusaka with my family for the Reformed Conference. We had refreshing times sitting before the preaching of God's Word and meeting many of God's children. We travelled back to Kitwe on Friday afternoon and arrived home at 20:00 hours. 30th August - W e had our guest service. A number of visitors came. I preached on the theme "The Compassionate God." We looked at how God forgave the sins of Ahab. I continued with our studies in the book of Ruth in the evening. This time we looked at the theme "God remembers His people." 31st August - I met with a number of pastors. They had asked me to present a paper on how to do expository preaching. A number of pastors came and after I had presented my paper we had a time of discussion where they asked many questions. PRAYER ITEMS: Jonathan M.
